I Iam going to share some tips and tricks for you to get to know.  Think of it as courting your IPhone all over again. Let’s fall in love again!

Turn a website into an app

Here is one of my favorites, if you read my blog regularly, and you should check out my post about making apps out of sites: http://deep3rintel.com/how-turn-webpage-into-desktop-app/.   All you need to do is visit the website in Safari and at the top of the screen, tap the Go To icon and select “Add to Home Screen.”

Mass delete emails

Do not delete emails individually. Get it done quickly!  Go to your inbox and click the edit button and check off emails you want to delete with your finger, and press Delete.

Save your battery

Turn  down the screen brightness, turn off wireless, bluetooth, and GPS when not in use. Turn off email push, or if you must have push,  lengthen the frequency .  Lock your phone while in your pocket.

Find my IPhone 4S

I have used at least 5 times already. I use my phone more often than I should. You should have picked up this app as soon as you brought your Iphone home. This app will help locate your IPhone when you have dropped it in between the couch cushion. You can send it a message or a loud ring with the option of remotely locking it or wiping its data.

Reboot your frozen IPhone 4S

If your IPhone freezes press the Sleep/Wake button at the top of your phone. If that doesn’t work, do not cry.  Go ahead, press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time. Next swipe to power off the phone. This is a hard reset. You are awesome. You saved your phone!

You are welcome for being the Chuck Woolery for you and Your IPhone 4S.

10 Things You Should Not Share On Facebook

Facebook. What would life be like without it? We love to share on Facebook. I mean it is there for us to share right? Well not so fast! Sometimes sharing is not caring! I want to share with you 10 things you should not share on Facebook. The question you may have in your head is…do we really need to review this? Why yes! Yes we do! I think we have all seen the friend on Facebook share a little bit too much!  I think at times I may have shared too much. Not anymore! You should stop too, well if you care about your personal brand or reputation.

If you do not care, then post away! I do not recommend it, but this is a free country. Let’s go!

  1. Issues with friends, relatives, or significant others.
  2. Inappropriate photos of you out at the bar throwing back drinks.
  3. That you are cheating, or considering it.
  4. Having an argument with someone else on your status message (All too common)
  5. That you hate your boss.
  6. That you just got out of jail. (Do you want to have a party?)
  7. That you hate your job.
  8. That you are calling in sick for work.
  9. Your extreme views on politics, race, or religion.
  10. That you committed a crime.

Now I know what some of you may thinking. Now you can create lists and you can control what people see. Indeed this is correct! Do you really want to take that risk? I like a little risk, but not THAT much risk. Think before you post!

Do you have things do you think should not be shared on Facebook?

Why Facebook Turns us into a Fake Friend

It is safe to say that the majority of the population is on Facebook. We use Facebook everyday to connect with our friends, family, colleagues, and co-workers.  Are we really “connecting” with people that we choose to have in our network on Facebook?  I want you to really think about this, how many of your claimed “friends” do the following on Facebook:

1) Respond to your posts

2) Like or comment on your status or pictures

3) Actually engage with you

Something to think about. If Facebook did not remind us it was someone’s birthday, would we wish them a happy birthday, let alone remember when their birthday was? Mind blown, I know! Now I am certainly not pointing fingers because I am guilty of this also.

I have almost 600 friends, and I may engage daily with maybe 30 of them regularly. I even have Facebook friends who honestly, I do not even really like. Shame. I know. It is a low down dirty shame. Why do I keep these people as friends? Why do I have friends that I do not associate with anymore for whatever reason in my friends list?

Is Facebook turning us into a voyueristic society where we just want to watch instead of participate? Do we really just want to spy and keep a watchful eye on other people’s lives for the sake of wasting time? I could ask a million questions, and I am sure everyone has their reasons.

This leads me to another point. If you choose to end a friendship or relationship, what is the point in keeping them on your friends list? If I end a relationship or friendship, you go bye bye. Then there are those who keep them but block them. Isn’t that the equivalent to delete?

I will admit, I am a fake friend at times, and I need to do some list “cleaning.”

What are your thoughts? Are you guilty?

My Five Favorite IPhone Apps

I love my IPhone, and I love trying many Iphone apps. I try at least 5 new IPhone apps weekly. Some may call me a tech geek, and I am, but I love to stay on top of the latest in tech. I love music so 2 of my favorite apps are music apps. So I want to share with you today a few of my favorite IPhone apps!

1. Flipboard – By far the best news app you can have on your IPhone. It is basically a content aggregator. You get all of your news in one place, without having to have several news apps on your IPhone.  http://flipboard.com/

2. Read It Later – If you have not tried Read It Later you need to do so NOW! I actually use Flipboard and Read It Later hand in hand. I get all my news in one place, AND I can save an article to read later from Flipboard.  You can view your articles from anywhere by using it on your browser also.  Could you possibly want any more than this? http://readitlaterlist.com

3. Spotify – This is easily the best music app available right now. You have access to millions of songs without the need to have them all stored to your phone. You do not need to pay $1.99 per song at ITunes. $10 per month gets you unlimited music that you can also make available to you offline. There are only a couple more music apps that can come even close to Spotify. If you know of better music apps you let me know. www.spotify.com

4. IHeart Radio – Ok, so I love music apps. With IHeart Radio, who needs conventional AM/FM radio? Where I am from, we do not have a radio station in my favorite genre of music. With IHeart Radio, I can listen to radio stations and morning shows across the country. This app also is in my top 5 of music apps.  I can listen anytime, anywhere, with minimal commercials, and it is FREE! www.iheart.com

5. Starbucks App – I am sure my fellow Starbucks lover will relate! You can pay for your Starbucks coffee directly from your phone!  Genius! The app also allows you to create your favorite drink, and can find stores for you. Paying with my IPhone is the best feature of the app in my opinion. Download it today! www.starbucks.com

There are a million best IPhone app reviews out there. I could have listed Facebook and Twitter, but doesn’t everyone like Facebook and Twitter?

What are some of your favorite Iphone apps?

How to turn a webpage into a desktop app

icon_prism

Do you have web pages that you use every day? Maybe you are using a dashboard that is web based or software that is web based. I do everyday. I started thinking to myself, how can I access these pages without taking up a tab in my browser? Now for us web savvy folk we may already know how to do this. If you do not, I am going to show you how.

I use a program called Prism. What is Prism? Prism is an application that lets you split web applications out of your  browser and run them directly on your desktop.

Why Prism? Taken from Prism/Mozilla Labs website: “Prism is designed to create a better environment for running your favorite web-based applications. Much of what we used to accomplish using an application running locally on our computers is moving into the web browser. Thanks to advances in web technology, these apps are increasingly powerful and usable. As a result, applications like Gmail, Facebook and Google Docs are soaring in popularity.”

I use Prism to run social media dashboards and CRM software, and I love it. Now you that you see the benefit, now I need to show you how to get it. Leggo!

  1. Go here –> http://prism.mozillalabs.com/started/ You can download the extension if you use Firefox. I only use Firefox to read email. If you use other browsers I would download the standalone application. I use the the standalone application.
  2. Run the application.
  3. Choose which site you want to run as an application.
  4. Copy and paste the URL and name the app. Click any of the radio boxes of options you would like to utilize.
  5. Click OK, and you now can go to your app directly instead of using your browser.

I love this app. Let me know if you found it useful or you have suggestions for other apps that may do this better. If you use this, how do you like it?

Forgiveness and Judgment: Chris Brown and Whitney Houston

Forgiveness. Why do we have a problem forgiving? Why do we even have a harder time forgiving celebrities for their missteps? Last week, Whitney Houston passed away. Despite her struggle with drugs and alcohol she was a great artist. Many people celebrated her life, recognized her greatness,  and were genuinely sympathetic about her death.

There were also people who asked why should we care? She was a druggie, crack head, drunk, crazy and all kinds of other things. I saw people make comparisons to honoring our fallen soldiers. How can we even compare? When someone dies, we should let them have their day. We as people can be a bit harsh and judgmental on others. What if it was your mom, sister, grandmother, sister, or daughter? Would you appreciate your loved one being trashed after their death? I know I wouldn’t.  In the words from the rapper Nas ”Why don’t you let the late, great veteran live?” Regardless of her personal issues she was a great artist.

Chris Brown is another controversial artist that many people really were upset about. We all know what he did, so I do not need to go into it here. I certainly do not condone what he did. It was wrong, I know it, we know it, and I am sure by now Chris Brown knows it. Forgiving someone does not mean that their behavior has been condoned.  I am not the most religious person, but I do believe we were told by Jesus we must forgive as we have been forgiven.

Forgiveness equals freedom. I will admit I have in the past held grudges and have withheld forgiveness. Think about this: Why are you letting someone live rent free in your head? I really had to give this some thought. It is a practice that I am working on myself. Why are we still mad at Chris Brown for something that happened years ago? Why do we judge Rihanna for having some kind of relationship with him?

Many of us have done some stupid things. Some of us have done worse than others. We have all done things to other people that we shouldn’t have. We all make mistakes, do not judge. Wouldn’t we want to be forgiven? I am not saying that when you forgive someone that you are suppose to be all chummy with them. Forgive and move on with your life. Why am I going to hate you forever? Why do I even care about what a celebrity does? It doesn’t affect my life whatsoever.  Chris Brown didn’t beat me. I didn’t do drugs with Whitney. I am not friends with Rihanna. I certainly have my opinions, but I am not going to spend my time worrying about things that have absolutely nothing to do with me.

I have been forgiven, and I have had to forgive.  Something to remember: You are not forgiving for them, you are forgiving for you. Do you find yourself having a hard time to forgiving?

Stop Photoshop Abuse!

Stop using Photoshop! Now! Before you Photoshop lovers get upset, I am not boycotting Photoshop. I am speaking out against the improper use of Photoshop. Now you are probably thinking. You can improperly use Photoshop? Why yes, yes you can! I will gladly show you later. We know magazines use it for covers and spreads, and while some still question that I do think it is okay. We know that when we see celebrities in print or on TV they are wearing tons of makeup, and I am ok with that.

What I am not with friends is too many regular folk getting a hold of Photoshop and editing their pictures. NOT OK! If you are editing your picture then you are distributing it as if that is what you really look like, you are doing a dis-service to yourself and the person you are passing it off too. this actually reminds me of the back in the day “Myspace” pictures.  A camera above head just getting a headshot not showing the whole body. I am sure some of you can remember these, and then getting a shock when you either met the person, or eventually saw a full body shot.  This is deception!

I will be first to admit. I am still trying to learn Photoshop, and I am no professional and I can admit it. Let’s look at some examples:

pics courtesy www.lazypalace.com

These are just a few examples. I hope you now understand why the improper use of Photoshop must be stopped. I guess I need to understand why the need to do this. Does it help make a person feel better about themselves by making themselves look like the person they want to be? Who knows, I do not get it. Use Photoshop for good only please. Please!!!

Cell Phone Separation Anxiety. It is real!

Last night more than ever, I realized how much we rely on our cell phones, and how much it sucks not having it.

Last night my girlfriend and I went to a pre-screen of the new movie “21 Jump Street.” Btw, it is a great movie. When we arrived at the theater it was playing in, we were wanded and we had to put our cell phones in a brown paper bag, and we were given a ticket so we could get it back at the end of the movie.

We went and sat down, nothing was on the screen, and it promptly started on time with no previews. We had about 20 minutes to kill. The theatre was packed, and you can tell most people were a little on edge without their phones. Luckily the movie was good and we forgot about it for the time being.

Lets think of times we find it most convenient to have a cell phone.

  • Standing in line. (OMG what do we do while we wait?)
  • In the restroom. (OMG what do we do while we wait?)
  • At dinner. (You mean I really have to talk to other people I am at dinner with?)
  • In bed, (Wait, you actually want to do OTHER things in this bed?)

I mean could go on and on, but I think you get the point. I think at some point there will be some type of anxiety related disease that will be associated with it. Maybe we should call it Cell Phone Separation Anxiety. Let’s look at some of the symptoms:

  • Excessive distress when separated from the cell phone
  • Nightmares
  • Reluctance to go to school or other places because of fear of separation
  • Reluctance to go to sleep without the cell phone nearby
  • Repeated physical complaints
  • Worry about losing or harm coming to the cell phone

Currently at this time, there are no known treatments for this disease.

As the movie was nearing end, people were starting to put on their coats to be the first to make their way to the door to retrieve their phones. It was akin to herding cattle. Oh how good it felt when we got them back. On or way out we checking messages and getting re-acquainted when a woman says “I hid mine in my boots.”

Some people never learn right? Could you have survived for those two hours without your phone?

Treat Yourself 2012

Treat yourself. In my last blog post I talked about being true to yourself. In 2012 it is all about you right? Well yes, yes it is!

Treat. Yo.Self  <——WATCH

Now this is a funny iteration of treating yourself. Does this just mean buying yourself material items? Have some retail therapy? Well of course not. I know some of you are givers and spend a lot of time giving to others. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself.

There are many ways to treat ourselves. It most importantly means taking care of ourselves and doing things for ourselves that benefit us and help our quality of life.

You may say, well Tony how do I do that? Well I am glad you asked. Here are a few ways you can do that:

  1. Take care of your health. This is the best way you can treat yourself. Put that Big Mac down and eat a carrot.
  2. Get a makeover. Get your hair and nails did.
  3. Buy one thing you have always wanted but never bothered to purchase before.
  4. Learn to say no. Saying yes all the time pleases others, but how do you all the time after always saying yes? You can’t be or do everything to everyone.
  5. Take a trip. I am not saying you need to book a trip to Jamaica. Take a weekend trip or a day trip to somewhere you’d like to go.
  6. Remove negative energy from your life. Whether it is people, things, environment. Try harder to maintain a positive life and have positive influences.

I hope some of these can have you have an awesome 2012.

How are you going to treat yourself in 2012?

True to yourself 2012. Do it!

True to myself. Indeed I am. Today I was reading a blog by a new friend of mine Andrea Beadle,  called Why being yourself in business is good for your bottom line. It really had me thinking you know. I am in the business of social media. In this business I need to be myself and be true to myself. In this business you have to have a level of transparency as you build relationships and trust.

I used to hate the word “transparency.” I used to say it was offensive. I used to feel being transparent meant you had to let people be all up in your business. I have learned that is far from the case. Sometimes I feel as people we may not know who we are, or we are portraying ourselves differently to others. I come across people who are slow to express themselves because they are afraid of conflict. While no one likes conflict. You cannot expect to get what you want from others if you do not express yourself.

Sometimes things just need to be said. It is how we say them that makes a world of difference.  As Andrea stated in her post “I finally learned that it was safe to me and express who I was. No longer afraid of whether people would dislike me, I realised that I could be me and that I liked it!” This resonated with me because not too long ago I came to that realization.

People like authentic people. I try to be as authentic as possible. I especially like authentic people. When you are authentic, you give others the choice in how they are going interact with you. If I know the real you is a jerk, I may not like it, but I can respect that is who you are, and I can choose how I want to proceed accordingly. If you are not being authentic, and you are dramatizing to be nice and you are a jerk, all respect is lost.

In our personal life and in business we should take care in how we present ourselves. When you are real to yourself, you erase all of the deceit. When you are un-authentic, you are not doing yourself, or anyone else for that matter any favors.

At the end of the day,  I’d rather you hate me or love me for WHO I am, than hate me or love me for WHO I am not.

Look out for my next post…Treat  Yourself 2012! This year it is all about you!
